Overview

A Mt Fuji day tour from Tokyo by coach, built for people who want the mountain without the logistics. Lake Kawaguchi, the spring-fed village at Oshino Hakkai, the red pagoda at Arakurayama and the Kawaguchiko convenience store view — four of the best-known angles on Fuji, in one day.

Highlights

  • Four separate views of Mt Fuji in a single day
  • Lake Kawaguchi from the shore
  • Oshino Hakkai, a village built around Fuji's spring water
  • Arakurayama Sengen Park and the red pagoda
  • Air-conditioned coach, English-speaking guide throughout

Experience

Lake Kawaguchi

The lake gives you Fuji reflected in water, which is the version most people have in their heads before they arrive. It is also where the mountain's scale registers for the first time. Your guide explains what you are looking at and when the light is best.

Oshino Hakkai

A village of ponds fed by snowmelt that has filtered down through Fuji's volcanic rock for decades before surfacing here. The water is startlingly clear. The village has been a stop for pilgrims for centuries, which your guide explains rather than leaves as scenery.

Arakurayama, and the photograph everyone knows

The five-storey pagoda with Fuji behind it is one of the most reproduced images of Japan. Getting there involves a climb of just under four hundred steps. Your guide tells you honestly what that involves before you start.

The last stop

The Kawaguchiko convenience store view became famous for the contrast — an ordinary shopfront against the mountain. It is a recent addition to the route rather than a historic site.

FAQ

What happens if Mt Fuji is hidden by cloud?

The tour runs as planned. Fuji is covered on many days of the year, particularly in summer, and no operator can guarantee a view. Your guide will tell you honestly what the odds look like on the day.

What is included in the price, and what do I pay for?

The coach, all transport between stops and your English-speaking guide are included. Lunch and entry fees are paid on the day, so bring cash.

How much walking is there?

Little, except at Arakurayama, which has close to four hundred steps. You can skip it and wait at the bottom.

What time do we get back to Tokyo?

Early evening, traffic permitting. Do not book anything tight for that night.

What is the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time. Bookings are confirmed instantly.
