A private Naoshima tour with a car and a guide. Chichu Art Museum, Benesse House, the Ando Museum, the Art House Project in Honmura and Kusama's pumpkins, driven between rather than queued for. The island's buses are small and infrequent, and this removes that problem entirely.
Highlights
A private car between every site on the island
Chichu Art Museum and Benesse House, both by Tadao Ando
The Ando Museum, inside a converted village house
The Art House Project through the lanes of Honmura
Kusama's pumpkins, and the Inland Sea
Experience
Why the car matters here
Naoshima's public bus is a minibus, it fills, and the gaps between services are long. On a busy day a good deal of the visit is spent standing at stops. With a car and a driver-guide, the same island becomes a comfortable day and you see more of it.
Chichu, and Benesse House
Chichu is buried in a hillside and lit from above, holding a handful of works in rooms built around them. Benesse House sits above the sea with the collection running out of the building into the landscape. Both are Tadao Ando, and seeing them in one day is a lesson in what concrete and daylight can do.
The Ando Museum
A small wooden house in the village, gutted and rebuilt inside with concrete and a shaft of light. It is the clearest short explanation of the architect's work anywhere, and it takes twenty minutes.
Honmura, and the coast
The Art House Project turned village houses into complete works — one flooded, one dark, one with a staircase through the roof. Between the sites the road runs along the coast, past the pumpkins and the beaches, with the Inland Sea and its islands the whole way.

FAQ
What is included in the price?
Your English-speaking guide and the private vehicle on the island. Ferries, museum admission and meals are separate and paid as you go.
Do we need to book museum tickets ourselves?
Yes, please buy them in advance for the museums you want to see. Chichu in particular is timed and sells out. Your guide will advise on what to book.
Is this better than the walking and bus version?
If you are short on time, travelling with children, or have any difficulty walking, yes. Otherwise both work and the car simply removes the waiting.
Can we add Teshima?
Teshima is a separate ferry and realistically a second day. Ask when you book and we will tell you whether it fits.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time. Bookings are confirmed instantly.
