An Asakusa food tour that starts when the temple empties and the drinking streets fill. Over three hours you eat fifteen dishes across three places — an izakaya on Hoppy Street, a bar in the backstreets, and a counter on Tanuki Street — with two drinks included and a guide who orders in Japanese so you don't have to.
Asakusa is a different place once the coach parties have gone. The temple, fourteen hundred years old, is lit from below and close to empty. We walk it first, with your guide explaining what you are looking at, before any eating starts.
Hoppy Street is a row of open-fronted izakaya where the tables spill onto the pavement and the drink it is named after has been poured since the post-war years. This is the first of four stops, and where the dishes start arriving.
One street back from Hoppy the noise drops away. The bar we use here has been in the same hands for decades and holds perhaps twelve people. Your guide orders another round and more food.
The evening finishes on Tanuki Street, a narrow lane inside Hoppy Street that most visitors never turn into. The final dishes come out here. Stay on afterwards if you like.

We will meet up in front of the Starbucks coffee Kaminarimon branch. Your guide carries a Travel Japan Together sign and will contact you on WhatsApp beforehand, so you can reach them directly on the night.
Fifteen dishes and two drinks are included, along with your English-speaking guide and the guided walk through Senso-ji. Anything you order beyond that is out-of-pocket, so please bring some cash because some places do not accept card.

Enough to count as dinner. The dishes are izakaya portions shared across the table, spread over four venues and three hours, so nobody leaves hungry or overwhelmed.
