A three-hour Shinjuku bar crawl through the parts of the neighbourhood that do not advertise themselves — the lantern-lit lanes of Omoide Yokocho, the backstreets of Kabukicho, and Golden Gai. Your guide handles the ordering, the etiquette and the doors, so you spend the evening eating and drinking rather than working out how.
We start in a narrow lane of tiny counters, lit by paper lanterns and thick with charcoal smoke. Omoide Yokocho grew out of the black markets that followed the war, and the buildings have barely changed since. Most visitors walk its length, take a photograph and leave without understanding what they are looking at. Your guide walks it with you and explains what you are seeing.
Kabukicho is Tokyo's largest nightlife district and the part of Shinjuku most visitors are warned about. Walking it with someone who knows it changes the experience entirely. Your guide points out what is worth your attention, what to ignore, and how the district actually works after dark.
An izakaya of the kind that fills with regulars and rarely sees a foreign visitor. This is where you settle in for food and your first drinks of the evening. Your guide orders for the table, explains each dish as it arrives, and handles the parts that are genuinely difficult on your own — the handwritten wall menu, the small dish that appears before you ordered anything.
A counter where sake is chosen against what you have already eaten rather than off a fixed list. You try several styles side by side, and your guide explains what separates them. Most guests arrive with no knowledge of sake and leave with a preference.

We walk through Golden Gai and, depending on the size of the group and how the evening has run, step into one of its bars. The night finishes at a karaoke bar, where you are welcome to stay on after the tour ends.
